John Abbott College Alumnus named Top 8 Academic All-Canadian
Ashton Miller-Melancon (‘20 Social Science) was recently named a Top 8 Academic All-Canadian for the 2022-23 season by U SPORTS.
Every year, U SPORTS honour student-athletes who achieve and maintain an average of 80% or more over the academic year. The top 8 student-athletes are invited to a special event in Ottawa where they are presented with the Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence.
During the 2022-23 season, Ashton held a 4.30 grade point average all while playing football for Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

During his time at John Abbott College, Islanders Football Head Coach Patrick Gregory, recalls Ashton being a key player in the 2019 championship team.
“Ashton is one of those top players both on and off the field,” says Gregory. “He has a duality in athletics and academics that most student-athletes aspire to reach. He has a great future ahead of him.”
When asked what his advice is for current students making their way through CEGEP, Ashton says: “develop organizational skills. Being able to effectively organize the work that you need to get done, as well as organizing your time, is something major that will help you get through CEGEP with good grades. These skills also become even more important once you start University education. Being organized allows you to stay on top of your work and prevents procrastination and last-minute struggles from occurring. Maintaining an organized routine will allow you to develop discipline, which is a transferable skill that will help you throughout your entire life.”
On behalf of the entire John Abbott College community, congratulations Ashton!
