Sheila Nadimi awarded grant from the Canada Council for the Arts
Sheila Nadimi, Co-Chair of the Visual Arts Department at John Abbott College, has been awarded a $35,000 Concept to Realization grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to support solo exhibition entitled ‘Eagle Village’.
This announcement coincides with Truth and Reconciliation Week, making its focus on Indigenous history particularly relevant. The exhibition is set to run from January to December 2025 at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art in Logan, Utah. Nadimi’s work builds a spatial archive of the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah, a former Native American boarding school, through photography, research, and community outreach. Her archive documents the site’s transformation over time and preserves visual evidence of markings left by Indigenous students in the dormitory buildings.
