John Abbott College Student Takes Home Bronze at 2024 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship
Sienna D’Alessandro, John Abbott College Social Science – Commerce student and Women’s Hockey Team athlete, recently represented Canada at the 2024 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Switzerland.
Scoring 7 goals with 1 assist in 6 games, Sienna helped bring the team to the bronze medal game against Finland, where Team Canada won 8 to 1.
“This was definitely a very surreal experience for me. I had been dreaming about this opportunity since I was a little girl,” says Sienna. “Getting the chance to represent my country at this level was an honour and something that I will forever be grateful for. I truly had the best time with the best people.”
Sienna recalls her favourite on-ice memory being the huddle her and her teammates would do around the net before every game. All the players would start cheering each other on: “it was our way of getting out of our heads a little and have some fun before it was time to get focused,” says Sienna.
“The John Abbott hockey team, players, and staff are very proud of what Sienna was able to accomplish at Worlds. She represented us extremely well on the ice with her outstanding performances. She has a great future as a hockey player, and we feel very fortunate she is part of our team and working with us to develop to her full potential,” says Noémie Marin, JAC Women’s Hockey Head Coach.
On behalf of the entire John Abbott College community, CONGRATULATIONS Sienna and to all the athletes on Team Canada. We look forward to seeing you grow in the sport you love so much.
