Obvia College Scholarship Program – Supporting the Next Generation
John Abbott College is excited to announce that two (2) students have each been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from Obvia (L’Observatoire international sur les impacts sociétaux de l’IA et du numérique) for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The scholarships will be used to research the societal impacts of AI and digital technologies.
Elsana Kanybek, Computer Science student, will be working on a research project titled DeficitIA – Sustainable Health and Technology. Elsana will be supervised by Meghrig Terzian, Co-chair and teacher of the Computer Science program.
Elsana aims to create an application for individuals with ADHD to help manage their condition. In the end, the project will offer personalized tools and strategies to effectively manage ADHD by improving their attention span, organizational skills, and overall well-being.
Marco Bitzas, Science student, will be working on a research project titled AI in Education: Student Insights and Implications for Future Practice. Marco will be supervised by Félix Racine, teacher in History of the History, Economics, Political Science (HEPS) department.
Marco aims to research college students’ views on artificial intelligence and technologies. In the end, the data collected will be analyzed to identify trends and provide insights on adapting the educational system to best meet students’ needs.

About Obvia
Obvia was established in 2019 at the initiative of the Fonds de recherche du Québec to encourage cross-sectoral research on the societal impacts of AI and digital technologies, to support the Quebec ecosystem in the development of AI, and to showcase Quebec research internationally. Led by Université Laval, we bring together 19 post-secondary institutions in Quebec. Obvia’s mandate was renewed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec in 2023 for a five-year period.
