Football, BBQ and nostalgia make its way to Memorial Field

Football and familiar faces return to Memorial Field this past weekend at John Abbott College.
On Saturday, the Concordia Stingers hosted the Guelph Gryphons in a preseason matchup, with the Gryphons earning a 24-14 victory.
The afternoon was a celebration of John Abbott’s football legacy, as fans filled the stands and the community conversed over BBQ.
The blue and gold was on full display, with seven alumni competing at the U Sports level. Glenn Valentine, Trenton Sheppard, Nathaniel Ewen, Dylan Boucher, Carter Soles, and Darius Simmons suited up for the Stingers, while Carter Camplin took to the field for the Gryphons.
Many of the alumni said it was exciting to return to their old stomping grounds, a reminder that even as players level up in their football careers, they will always remain tied to the Abbott family.
The excitement around Memorial Field continues to build with the Islanders’ season opener set for this Friday.
