CBC News visits John Abbott College to report on Quebec’s urgent Pharmacy Technician shortage
CBC News came to John Abbott College to take a closer look at one of the most critical issues facing Quebec’s healthcare system today: the growing shortage of Pharmacy Technicians.
As highlighted in our previous post, hospitals and community pharmacies across the province are struggling to keep up with rising demands. Pharmacists are being given more responsibility than ever within the healthcare system—but without enough qualified Pharmacy Technicians to support them, they face mounting workloads, increasing stress, and a real risk of burnout. This shortage is already impacting the public, and the need for trained professionals has never been greater.
During their visit, CBC News had the opportunity to see firsthand the important work happening inside our Pharmacy Technology program. Their team toured our labs and spoke in depth with our Faculty Pharmacists, teachers, nurses, and students to understand how John Abbott is at the forefront of training the next generation of Pharmacy Technicians.
From hands‑on simulations to real‑world preparation, our program ensures that future technicians are ready to support Quebec’s healthcare system and deliver the high‑quality care patients rely on—all while entering a high‑demand, well‑paid profession that AI cannot replace.
