Women’s individual national golf champ, Emily Romancew

Excerpts from the CCAA announcement:

“Winning a national award and being able to say we have a national title for John Abbott is amazing.

I think I played really well and I’m really satisfied with my overall week,” says Romancew.

Romancew, led the women’s individual race from wire to wire. Her final total of 298 left her six strokes ahead of runner-up Shaye Leidenius from RDC. Alyssa Stoddart from the Fanshawe Falcons shot a four-day total of 305 to claim the bronze medal.

Day 2 of the CCAA Golf Nationals has our own Emily Romancew holding on to 1st place over Becky Martin of the Medicine Hat Rattlers. Romancew’s second consecutive score of 75 gives her a two-day total of 150, six strokes better than Martin.

In the women’s individual race, Emily Romancew from the John Abbott Islanders holds a two-stroke lead over Elizabeth Labbé from Champlain St. Lawrence and Becky Martin from the Rattlers. Romancew shot an impressive three over par 75.

“I feel good. With the wind conditions today, it was tougher than we thought but it was fun. I was in a fun group. I know I need to stay patient with three rounds left-patience and grind. I can’t get too ahead of myself. It’s a tough golf course,” says Romancew.

Emily Romancewis a John Abbott Science student with a bright future ahead in both school and sport.

Described by her golf coach Joel Fitleberg as extremely supportive of her teammates with a super attitude, Emily won the highest golfing honour in the province last week – bringing home the provincial championship.

She is off to Medicine Hat Alberta this weekend for theCCAA National Championships. The five day competition is taking place at the Desert Blume Golf Club which will “…test every aspect of a golfer’s game…” according to the tournament host Medicine Hat College.
