Teresa Berghello Appointed Academic Dean
The Board of Governors of John Abbott College is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Teresa Berghello as the new Academic Dean, effective June 1, 2022.
Teresa joined the John Abbott College faculty in 2004 to later become Chair and Coordinator of the Nursing department and program in 2008. Her experience in teaching and learning, and her outstanding administrative and managerial skills led her to become interim Dean of Science and Social Science in 2013 and Dean since 2015. During the last year, Ms Berghello was responsible for the overall planning, coordination, facilitation, and monitoring of innovation projects aimed at preparing the College for the post-pandemic reality among her many responsibilities, including pedagogical development.
“Following the unanimous recommendation from the selection committee and Academic Council, the Board of Governors is thrilled with this appointment,” says Gwyneth Edwards, Chair of the Board of Governors. “Teresa’s vast experience as a teacher, a coordinator and a dean combined with her in-depth knowledge of the CEGEP network, made her the obvious choice for the position.”
Ms Berghello’s appointment follows the retirement of Gordon Brown, who is stepping down after serving as Academic Dean for 5 years. “Gordon worked at Abbott during an unprecedented time, where he made significant contributions to the college. We thank him sincerely for his dedication and wish him well in his future endeavours,” added Gwyneth Edwards.
