JAC Professor to Lead a Research Project on Youth Radicalization

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec – June 21, 2016 –Dr Julie Caouette, Psychology teacher at John Abbott College, has received confirmation of a three year Federal grant to investigate Pathways to radicalization among multicultural youth in Canada.

Dr Caouette, the lead applicant on this research project, will study the process of youth radicalization:

The proposed research aims to… [examine]…the different pathways to radicalization among Canadian youth. The findings will have immediate, basic and applied significance in terms of enhancing current policies, tools, and resources for policymakers, politicians, and frontline workers (e.g., teachers, educators, social workers, psychologists and law enforcement) to identify, prevent, and contain the threat of terrorism.

This project, funded by the Community and College Social Innovation Fund (CCSIF) was ranked first of seventy-four applications. Parties involved in this research include representatives from Carleton University, McGill University, Université du Québec à Montréal, Ottawa Police Services, Cégep de Sainte-Foy, the Boys & Girls’ Club of Ontario and the Centre de prévention de la radicalisation menant à la violence.
