JAC grad appointed Ambassador to Indonesia
Peter MacArthur, a John Abbott 1978 graduate in Social Sciences, has been appointed Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia effective autumn 2016. He will continue as Canada’s senior APEC official. Peter was previously Director General for South and Southeast Asia and Oceania at Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa and has had several diplomatic postings abroad. These have included Russia, India, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. While at JAC Peter edited the Bandersnatch newspaper and was elected to the College Board of Governors. John Abbott College and Indonesia benefit from a special collaborative academic relationship established through 2012 MOUs signed by JAC with the Indonesia Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta and Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata in Bandung.
