CCAA AND JOHN ABBOTT RECOGNIZE A PILLAR OF THE SPORTS WORLD

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC – April 26, 2018– A pillar of society is described by the Collins Dictionary as: A person who is universally respected- reliable-decent and hardworking…often engaging in voluntary work and taking up worthy causes who neighbors and the community have high regard and esteem for. Glenn Ruiter is that person.

Ruiter has recently been recognized by two institutions for his dedication and diligence in the world of college sports.

Arriving at John Abbott College in 1972, hoping to become a history teacher, he held many different positions, all of which were student focused. His love of amateur sports and his career at Abbott merged as he took the helm of the JAC Sports & Recreation department in 1981. Sports at the college flourished under Ruiter as his leadership and work ethic were recognized on and off the field of play.

Over the next twenty-six plus years, Ruiter would play key roles in the RSEQ (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) and the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association), most notably developing a solution to Sport Canada’s funding cuts that threatened the survival of the Association.

May 24, John Abbott College will add Glenn Ruiter’s name to the Hall of Distinction. Established in 2016, the Hall of Distinction recognizes alumni, former employees, and friends of the College who have contributed to life on campus or to the greater community in a significant way.

June 12, Ruiter a former Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association President and Vice-President, will be inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame in the Builder Category.
