JAC Bioblitz April 26-29

Thank you for your interest in the 2024 John Abbott College Bioblitz!

A bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.
John Abbott College is home to a wide variety of species across its 25ha campus. The college hosts a range of habitats that support an impressive diversity of plants, birds, mammals, fungi, and more.
It’s really easy to participate in this year’s Bioblitz; Just follow the step-by-step instructions below.
Any iNaturalist sightings made on April 26 through to and including April 29 will go towards John Abbott’s Bioblitz tally.
Walk the campus, visit the bird feeders outside AME, check out some of the informative signs, and more. All the while, making observations using the iNaturalist app.

Who knows what you will discover!

  1. Download the iNaturalist app on your smartphone (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inaturalist/id421397028)
  2. Create a free Account and watch this video to learn how to use the app https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xENz1xRu0wI
  3. Head outdoors and explore. When you come across something of interest, take photos from various angles to showcase different features of the species. Example: if you want to identify a tree, use individual photos of the whole tree, leaves, bark, fruit/flowers, seed pods, etc.
  4. Upload Observations: Use the app to upload your photos, add details, and identify the species based on the recommendations provided.
  5. Stay Engaged: Check back for ID confirmation updates from community experts, respond to comments, and continue exploring.

Note: For your iNaturalist observations to count towards the project, your location needs to be entirely within JAC campus grounds.
