La coupe Jeff Mills Memorial est d\u00e9cern\u00e9e chaque ann\u00e9e \u00e0 l’\u00e9tudiant-athl\u00e8te qui incarne le mieux les qualit\u00e9s de leadership sportif, acad\u00e9mique et communautaire. Cette ann\u00e9e, le C\u00e9gep John Abbott a r\u00e9compens\u00e9 Louis Prince, joueur de football et \u00e9tudiant en sciences, pour son travail acharn\u00e9, son d\u00e9vouement et son leadership.<\/p>\n

Un employ\u00e9 de longue date du C\u00e9gep m’a dit hier soir que la coupe Jeff Mills ne se gagne pas, elle se m\u00e9rite. Je pense que nous sommes tous tr\u00e8s fiers de voir Louis r\u00e9compens\u00e9. […] \u00c0 notre \u00e9poque, il est rare de voir un jeune, ou n’importe qui en fait, assumer un tel r\u00f4le de leader et voir ses actions correspondre parfaitement \u00e0 ses paroles. Louis est un joueur tr\u00e8s assidu. Prince a commenc\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re de footballeur \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge de 10 ans \u00e0 Verdun, jouant pour les As de Pointe St-Charles et les Ti-Cats de Verdun. En 2019, Prince s’est joint \u00e0 l’\u00e9quipe d’\u00e9toiles de la Ligue de football bantam du Qu\u00e9bec (LFBQ), mais son s\u00e9jour a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9court\u00e9 en raison de la pand\u00e9mie. Lorsque le C\u00e9gep John Abbott a repris ses activit\u00e9s en personne en 2021, Prince a eu l’occasion de jouer pour l’\u00e9quipe de football, qui a remport\u00e9 le Bol D’Or, un championnat de division tr\u00e8s convoit\u00e9. Au-del\u00e0 de sa carri\u00e8re de footballeur, Prince s’est fortement impliqu\u00e9 dans des activit\u00e9s parascolaires. Au cours de la saison 2021, Prince s’est joint au Comit\u00e9 de justice sociale du C\u00e9gep et a travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 temps partiel pour le service des Ressources mat\u00e9rielles.<\/p>\n

C’est un grand honneur de gagner ce prix qui comm\u00e9more quelqu’un qui a eu un impact important \u00e0 la fois sur et en dehors du terrain. Je pense qu’une grande partie de la raison pour laquelle j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 pour ce prix est l’impact que j’ai eu sur mes co\u00e9quipiers. \u00c0 l’aube de ma derni\u00e8re saison, j’ai essay\u00e9 d’\u00eatre le mentor dont j’aurais eu besoin en tant que jeune joueur. Dans cette optique, j’ai pu nouer des relations personnelles avec chacun de mes co\u00e9quipiers, ce qui a renforc\u00e9 l’\u00e9quipe dans son ensemble. La coupe Jeff Mills Memorial, nomm\u00e9 en m\u00e9moire d\u2019un joueur de football des Clansmen de Macdonald-Abbott en 1973-1974, qui est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 pr\u00e9matur\u00e9ment en 1975. Mills \u00e9tait connu comme un leader sur et en dehors du terrain et \u00e9tait une v\u00e9ritable repr\u00e9sentation d’un joueur d’\u00e9quipe. Le prix est d\u00e9cern\u00e9 depuis 1975 et a \u00e9t\u00e9 attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 50 personnes. Parmi ces derniers, citons Gord Brabant, le premier r\u00e9cipiendaire du prix, le duo p\u00e8re-fils Mike et Sean Smallwood, Georgina Paull, l’une des deux femmes arbitres de la LCF, et Scott, Robert et Justin Pemberton, trois fr\u00e8res qui ont chacun remport\u00e9 le prix \u00e0 titre individuel.<\/p>\n

La soir\u00e9e annuelle de remise des prix des Islanders r\u00e9compense les \u00e9tudiantes et \u00e9tudiants-athl\u00e8tes pour leur d\u00e9vouement \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole et dans leur sport. Prince a \u00e9galement re\u00e7u le prix Jonathan Ruiter Memorial qui r\u00e9compense le meilleur joueur de l’\u00e9quipe de football.<\/p>\n

J’esp\u00e8re que les futurs athl\u00e8tes de John Abbott s’efforceront de r\u00e9ussir, non seulement dans leur sport, mais aussi dans tous les autres domaines de leur vie. L’\u00e9cole doit \u00eatre une priorit\u00e9 absolue et le fait d’\u00eatre fier de ses efforts contribue grandement \u00e0 la r\u00e9ussite.
