Les \u00e9tudiants et employ\u00e9s du C\u00e9gep John Abbott ainsi que des invit\u00e9s sp\u00e9ciaux se rassemblant sur le terrain du futur jardin des Premiers Peuples et de la microfor\u00eat sur le campus, le 11 mai 2023, pour la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d’accueil et de b\u00e9n\u00e9diction.<\/em><\/p>\n

Des \u00e9tudiants et des employ\u00e9s du C\u00e9gep John Abbott ainsi que des invit\u00e9s sp\u00e9ciaux se sont r\u00e9unis sur le campus le 11 mai 2023, pour la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d’accueil et de b\u00e9n\u00e9diction du jardin et de la microfor\u00eat des Premiers Peuples.<\/p>\n

Le Directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, John Halpin, a commenc\u00e9 l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement par une reconnaissance territoriale, puisque le C\u00e9gep se trouve sur des terres autochtones non c\u00e9d\u00e9es du territoire traditionnel de la nation Kanien’keha:ka \u00ab Mohawk \u00bb et qui est un lieu de rassemblement pour tant d’autres.<\/p>\n

Par la suite, Kevin Deer, gardien des traditions de la maison longue Mohawk Trail a ouvert la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019accueil et de b\u00e9n\u00e9diction, accompagn\u00e9 d’une chanson traditionnelle de Don Barnaby, danseur traditionnel et \u00e9ducateur culturel de Listuguj, qui r\u00e9side actuellement dans le territoire mohawk non c\u00e9d\u00e9 de Kahnaw\u00e0:ke, \u00e0 l’ext\u00e9rieur de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n

L’\u00e9v\u00e9nement a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 l’occasion d’une c\u00e9l\u00e9bration, puisque le Coll\u00e8ge a officiellement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 la Directrice adjointe de l’\u00e9ducation autochtone, Kim Tekakwitha Martin, une ancienne \u00e9tudiante du C\u00e9gep John Abbott et la premi\u00e8re personne \u00e0 tenir ce r\u00f4le dans le r\u00e9seau des c\u00e9geps.<\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui, c’est un premier pas pour le C\u00e9gep John Abbott et pour la communaut\u00e9 autochtone. Cela signifie beaucoup pour moi que tout le monde soit pr\u00e9sent et que l’on puisse montrer concr\u00e8tement la coop\u00e9ration entre le Coll\u00e8ge et notre communaut\u00e9 et que nous soyons reconnus.

La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie s’est alors d\u00e9plac\u00e9e \u00e0 l’int\u00e9rieur pour un d\u00eener l\u00e9ger comprenant des mets traditionnels, tels qu’une soupe de ma\u00efs \u00e0 la viande d\u2019orignal, ainsi que des chants et des danses traditionnels par Don Barnaby et Thomasina Phillips, danseuse des clochettes originaire de Kahnaw\u00e0:ke, et r\u00e9sidant actuellement \u00e0 Tio’tia:ke (Montr\u00e9al).<\/p>\n
