Sainte-Anne-De-Bellevue (Qu\u00e9bec) \u2013 le <\/span>30<\/span> avril 2024<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>Le C\u00e9gep John Abbott est heureux d’annoncer qu’il a re\u00e7u une subvention \u00ab\u00a0Lib\u00e9rez votre nature\u00a0\u00bb du WWF-Canada afin d’am\u00e9liorer son projet novateur d’am\u00e9nagement du terrain. La subvention, d’une valeur de 1 500 $, appuiera la cr\u00e9ation d’une <\/span>microfor\u00eat<\/span> et d’un jardin des Premi\u00e8res Nations sur le campus du coll\u00e8ge, en incorporant diverses esp\u00e8ces de plantes indig\u00e8nes afin de restaurer la biodiversit\u00e9 et de soutenir la faune et la flore locales.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce projet, principalement financ\u00e9 par une subvention de Coll\u00e8ges et Instituts Canada (programme de laboratoires vivants sur les campus), vise \u00e0 transformer une partie du campus actuellement recouverte d’une pelouse peu diversifi\u00e9e en un habitat sauvage dynamique. Avec le soutien du WWF-Canada, le C\u00e9gep John Abbott int\u00e9grera <\/span>14<\/span> esp\u00e8ces de plantes indig\u00e8nes dans le jardin des Premi\u00e8res Nations, enrichissant ainsi l’environnement et favorisant les opportunit\u00e9s \u00e9ducatives qui fusionnent les perspectives culturelles autochtones et les connaissances scientifiques.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shannon Coulter-Low, une figure cl\u00e9 de cette initiative, a exprim\u00e9 son enthousiasme pour le m\u00e9lange unique de traditions autochtones et de compr\u00e9hension \u00e9cologique moderne : \u00ab\u00a0La subvention nous aide \u00e0 mettre sur pied un projet unique et passionnant qui associe les perspectives occidentales et les modes de connaissance autochtones (approche \u00e0 double perspective). Ces plantes seront utilis\u00e9es pour cr\u00e9er un espace sacr\u00e9 permettant \u00e0 nos \u00e9tudiant(e)s autochtones et \u00e0 toutes les personnes apprenantes d’entrer en contact avec la terre dans le cadre de ce projet interdisciplinaire.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

La <\/span>microfor\u00eat<\/span> et le jardin des Premi\u00e8res Nations serviront d’habitats vitaux pour les pollinisateurs, les insectes, les oiseaux, les petits mammif\u00e8res et les amphibiens, tout en contribuant \u00e0 la s\u00e9questration du carbone, \u00e0 l’am\u00e9lioration de la qualit\u00e9 de l’air, \u00e0 la r\u00e9gulation de la temp\u00e9rature et \u00e0 la r\u00e9tention de l’eau dans les zones sujettes aux inondations. Cette initiative transformatrice s’inscrit dans la mission du WWF-Canada qui consiste \u00e0 restaurer et \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger la nature, \u00e0 lutter contre la disparition des esp\u00e8ces en p\u00e9ril et \u00e0 att\u00e9nuer les effets du changement climatique.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le C\u00e9gep John Abbott est l’un des 59 \u00e9tablissements au Canada \u00e0 avoir re\u00e7u une subvention Lib\u00e9rez votre nature cette ann\u00e9e, contribuant ainsi \u00e0 l’objectif plus large de l’organisation de r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un million d’hectares pour la biodiversit\u00e9 et le climat d’ici 2030. Le projet du C\u00e9gep John Abbott illustre l’impact transformateur des initiatives locales qui favorisent la gestion de l’environnement et entretiennent les liens entre les communaut\u00e9s et la nature.<\/span><\/p>\n
