History Awarded annually to a student entering the second or third year of the Nursing program, who has demonstrated an aptitude for the profession of nursing and is in good academic standing.

Angela Wilson Memorial Bursary

History Established in 2007, the purpose of the bursary is to honour the memory of Angela Wilson and the contribution she made to the fabric of our society as a daughter, friend, student and nurse. She graduated in 2005 from John Abbott College’s Intensive Nursing Program.

Anna Whitton Memorial Bursary

History Established to honour the memory of Anna Whitton who had a long history with John Abbott College, as a student and as an employee from 1977 to 2011. Anna’s passion for the College and its students over the decades was her life’s work and inspiration.

Ben McKinnon Memorial Scholarship

History In recognition of artistic spirit, personality, talent and passion of Ben McKinnon who passed away in late 2016 at age 24, the Hudson Village Theatre company and Ben’s family created The Ben McKinnon Memorial Scholarship. This generous scholarship of $500 is awarded annually (amount may vary from year to year depending on resources) to a current student who exemplifies a passion for pursuing the Theatre arts, who contributes to the community, and who is deemed in need of financial assistance in order to continue their studies.
Eligibility / Criteria
  • PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO A THEATRE PROGRAM STUDENT
  • Must be a full-time student registered in their third year of the Theatre program who is pursuing university studies in the Theatre art
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Involved in campus life or their own community, and how this award would help them.

CAE Tech: Program your career!

History The CAE Tech: Program your career! initiative aims to develop talent and boost the reach, the relevance and the quality of workplace traineeship possibilities in an innovative and collaborative way. This initiative supports the vision of the Business/Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) launched in 2015 by the Business Council of Canada. It is also part of a broad range of grants offered by CAE to promote job-creation in the aerospace industry.
Eligibility / Criteria
  • FOR STUDENTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ONLY
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be registered full-time in a technical program of studies such as in computer technology, avionics or computer networking
  • Must be completing their first or second year of studies
  • Good academic standing
  • Be available and able to carry out the traineeships at CAE over the course of the program

Cody Bouchard Memorial Scholarship

History Cody Bouchard, a John Abbott College student was a very special young man who cared for his school mates. Courageous, kind, courteous and socially engaged, Cody was to graduate from the Business Management program in the spring of 2020 but, unfortunately, he passed away after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer.

Elizabeth and Quentin Parker Bursaries by Thrift Shops for Nova

History The first Thrift Shop for Nova, a non-for-profit organization, was founded in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in 2004 and has since grown to six outlets on the West Island. Their mission is to subsidize health and social service by donating their proceeds to NOVA West Island. To complete their mission, they rely on a large network of volunteers.

The board of directors of the Thrift Shops for Nova would like to recognize the continued hard work of one of the founding members, Elizabeth Parker and her husband Quentin by creating bursaries in support of students enrolled in a Nursing program at John Abbott College.

Fakhri Monazami Razavynia Memorial Scholarship

History To honour the memory of her beloved mother Fakhri Monazami Razavynia and her contribution to society, Dr. Razieh Razavynia is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a serious and engaged Dental Hygiene student who has shown perseverance and determination in the pursuit of her education objectives.

  • FOR STUDENTS IN DENTAL HYGIENE ONLY
  • Must be a full-time student registered in their second or third year of the Dental Hygiene program
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Must demonstrate financial need to continue their studies

Preference will be given to a female student of Iranian background.

George Springate Memorial Scholarship

History Established to honour the memory of George Springate, who was a unique Quebecer and Canadian. A former City of Montreal police officer and Montreal Alouettes 1970 Grey Cup champion football player, he co-founded the Police Technology program at John Abbott College in 1973. During his 33 years there, the fluently bilingual Mr. Springate was a highly respected law professor, mentor and friend to countless students and faculty.

  • FOR STUDENTS IN POLICE TECHNOLOGY ONLY
  • The scholarship will be given annually to a third-year Police Technology student who best illustrates their kind, supportive and unselfish desire to help their fellow students in need without any expectations in return

History Created by the Montreal Lakeshore University Women’s Club in 2016 to support women from the West Island of Montreal who are studying in a Technical program.

Nicholas Samios Memorial Bursary

History This bursary was established by Catherine and Mary Samios to honour the memory of their beloved brother, Nicholas Samios, who started his career in computer engineering and had a life-long passion for taking things apart to see how they worked.

With this agreement, the Nicholas Samios Bursary, will provide financial assistance to a full-time or deemed full-time student enrolled in a career program.

  • Must be a full-time student registered in a career program at John Abbott College; preference will be given to student enrolled in the Engineering Technologies program;
  • Good academic standing, with a minimum average of 70%;

History The Oka and Grégoire Foundation Bursary provides funding to support full-time or deemed full-time students in the Nursing program who need financial assistance in order to continue their studies.

  • Must be a full-time or deemed full-time Nursing student at John Abbott College, in either the 3-year program or the 2-year intensive program;
  • Good academic standing, with a minimum average of 70%;
  • Must demonstrate financial need to continue their studies.
