The Student Innovation Gala was held on Thursday, April 27 at Cégep Gérald-Godin, in collaboration with John Abbott College and Vanier College.
Sponsored by Pfizer with Diversity as its theme, the evening began with a welcome video by Vincent Lamoureux, Director of Global Health and Social Impact at Pfizer Canada, followed by a presentation by guest speaker Guedwig Bernier, President of Projet Montréal, entitled “Embodying Change”.
Teams of students from the three CEGEPs presented their business projects.
- First place was awarded to a team from John Abbott College for TEAXT, a speech-to-text web application that translates teacher lectures into text. The project is aimed at students who have difficulty hearing in class and taking notes.
- Second place went to a student from Cégep Gérald-Godin for his AR Vision project. This project aims to improve the quality of life of people with severe visual impairment or who are completely blind through the use of augmented reality.
- A special mention for the Pfizer Diversity Award went to another team from John Abbott College for Orbis Snack Machine, an initiative to install an international snack vending machine on campus. This project will provide accessible and affordable snacks to students, offer them food from their country of origin and/or raise awareness of food cultures around the world.
- Finally, the Public’s Favourite award went to TEAXT.
“It was a great pleasure for us to be associated with the Student Innovation Gala 2022, which perfectly matches one of Pfizer’s core values, equity” said Vincent Lamoureux.
