This practical course introduces students to the scene shop and wardrobe facility. The student works with all the standard tools, equipment and construction techniques, while learning the basics of fabrication in a safe manner.
Technical Drawing 1 | 561-C1D-AB
Students are introduced to fundamentals of drafting, isometrics and rendering, in order to communicate ideas to a director and construction team. The student finishes with technical drawings of a scenic design.
Intro to Design | 561-C1E-AB
Students are introduced to design and communication theory as well as text analysis. The student learns to develop design ideas and how to clearly convey those ideas to an audience.
Stage Practices | 561-C1S-AB
This practical course introduces students to the backstage environment. The course teaches the student the fundamentals of working safely in a stage environment and how the venue and equipment are used by the various production departments.
Intro to Theatre 1 | 561-C1T-AB
Students are introduced to production staff roles, stage layouts, theatre etiquette, as well as a brief overview of major movements in theatre history.

The first of two courses which explores preparation for the workforce and maintaining a career in the performing arts. The course covers basic financial literacy, awareness of future professional development, and preparing CVs for job applications.

This course focuses on teaching students to manage large projects, including supervising a team, prioritizing build items, tracking progress and fully managing the design aspect of a project. The student learns how to prioritize a production’s needs, clearly communicate ideas, track a budget and deliver it all on time throughout the complete design process.

This course, combined with Integrated Project 2 in the sixth semester, consists of a design project that will combine Props, Costumes and Scenic Design into a single project, working from a source as inspiration. The course emphasizes the conceptualization, planning and preparation of the project.

This course is the first of two courses that are an in-depth exploration of Lighting. The student explores the function/operation of the lighting equipment, lighting system and the process of a head electrician/lighting operator on a stage production.

This course introduces students to the work of stage managers and assistant stage managers, including their roles with the actors in rehearsal, their collaboration with the design and production team, as well as the running of a show. This course also touches on union rules as they apply to rehearsal and running a show.
